Provisional License Information
Here is some basic information to get you on your way.
Please read this carefully...
You can apply for your first British provisional driving licence if you:
- are a resident of Great Britain
- can meet the minimum age requirement
- can meet the minimum eyesight requirement
- are currently not prevented from driving
- have a valid UK passport or another form of identity
- can provide addresses of where you have lived over the last three years.
For online applicants
You will need the following extra information to hand before navigating to the DirectGov application page:
- Mastercard, Visa, Maestro, Electron, Delta or Solo debit or credit card
- have a working printer connected to your computer
Means of identification
DVLA accepts the following original documentation as confirmation of your identity.
- full valid current passport
- UK birth/adoption certificate
- UK certificate of registry of birth (provided your name is present)
- identity card issued by a member state of the European Community/European Economic Area (EC/EEC)
- travel documents issued by the Home Office
- UK certificate of naturalisation
